Adding to Your Personal Menu Getting Started Guide 125 NOTE: You can make your Personal menu appear first when you click on the K icon, with the default main menu appear- ing as a submenu. To select this option, open a Panel config- uration window by choosing Settings|Applications|Panel and choosing the Options tab. To add an application to your Personal menu: 1. Open a file manager window to view your home directory. 2. Choose View|Show Hidden Files if they are not already visible. 3. Browse to this directory within your home directory: .kde/share/ applnk. 4. Create a KDE Link file for the application that you want on your Per- sonal menu (as described previously in this Chapter). Any KDE Link files located in the applnk subdirectory are displayed in your Personal submenu. If you want to create submenus in your Personal menu to divide your applica- tions into groups, create a subdirectory in the applnk directory. All subdirectories and KDE Links in those directories are arranged alphabetically by KDE as the menus are displayed. If you prefer, you can use the Menu Editor program. You must still create a KDE Link file first, however. To use the Menu Editor to add to your Personal Menu: 1. Create a KDE Link file for the application that you want on your Per- sonal menu. 2. Open a file manager window so that the KDE Link file you created is visible. 3. Start the Menu Editor by choosing Panel|Edit Menus on the main menu. 4. Drag the KDE Link file from the file manager window and drop it on the Personal menu (labeled Empty initially). 5. Right-click on the new menu item you added and choose Change to update the properties of the menu item as necessary. 6. Right-click on the Empty menu item and choose Cut to remove it from the Personal menu.
